Warsaw Students Participate In Mock Job Interviews

WARSAW — Warsaw students practiced strong handshakes and speaking skills through mock job interviews at the Warsaw Area Career Center.

More than 20 community leaders in Kosciusko County interviewed WACC juniors and seniors on Wednesday, March 30.

About 75 students were interviewed by local employers in an exercise to help them further develop their interview skills while hearing constructive feedback.

WACC’s Adult Roles and Responsibilities classes, as well as students in Warsaw Community Schools’ Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) program, participated in the mock interviews.

“This gives them real-world experience of what companies are looking for, how to highlight and talk about their skills, strengths and even areas of growth, creating résumés and dressing for success,” said WCS Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Teacher Dena Lancaster.

Interview sessions were rotation-based, with students speaking to multiple interviewers. Each interviewer used a rubric system to grade students on how they did. One interviewer participated in the mock interviews online, giving students the opportunity to experience both in-person and virtual interviews.

Lancaster said there was a lot of interest from local employers this year in helping with WACC’s mock interviews.

Participating interviewers and companies included: Christy Swartzentruber, Chrissy Smith, Luisa Davis and Jill Jackson, Warsaw Community Schools; Roberto Perez-de-frias and Jeremy Burke, Zimmer Biomet; Lorna Shively, WorkOne; Tristan Spuller, Community Grace of Warsaw; Tim Hamann, Male Fashions; Angie Tom, Tom Farms; Carly Kaufman, Flexaust; Karen Erba, Bowen Center; Tony Doyle, EMT of Warsaw; Shari Benyousky, SB Communications LLC; Melissa Chappell, Grace College; Garrett Holderman, Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory; Chris Manduka, Cable Bullet; Laura Campbell, Cardinal Center; Betsy Vastbinder, Kosciusko County Justice Building; Chris Rager, Kosciusko County Highway Department; and retirees Larry Easterday and Heather Harstine.
